"How can you expect the birds to sing when their groves are cut down?" ~Thoreau

See, you randomly hit on a new comic and this is what you find:

For canceling the one class I was truly looking forward to taking next spring and that was also required for my creative writing option, not to mention the fact that the class focused on what I want to do with my life, I hope MSU loses all sports games next year. I stick my tongue out at them and hope that my amazing English councilor will don a superhero mask and make everything right...if she ever returns my e-mail.

In other news, through over-analyzing myself I've come to the conclusion I'm way too selfish. As a follower of Christ I REALLY need to work on putting others before me. WHINE: But it's hard. When something is bothering me, I just gotta talk about it!
Bad mood. Bad stuff. Avoid me unless you want to listen to a rant and watch me jump around like a crazy person.

Did not study enough.

It's sad when this is the thought I have to cling to: "Myself, I am a terrific BS-er...that translates to any language."

Wave bye-bye to GPA! Bye-bye! I'll miss you!

Tomorrow=day of doom, pain, suffering, judgement etc.
(2 Spanish finals 20 minutes apart. I am unsure of the material in both classes and my grade in both classes is on the line...must do well)

What makes matters worse=It's snowing.

Now have to go take English test.

Bad week. Bad week.

Sunday, April 25, 2004

Well, I am prepared to study. I have organized every possible thing...now to study...or write in my blog...or watch a movie and eat cheesecake...THEN study. Yes, study later. That's the approach I'll take.

Well, our loft is down. I think the guys that came and did it were racing with another group. They barely said a word then BAM BAM BAM stuff was coming down...which would be okay, but I was sitting underneath one of the lofts. Loud scary experience. So, Jas and I now have a huge bunk bed in the middle of our room. It's creating traffic flow problems, but what can I say? I have too much stuff, we can't put the bunks against a wall. So now it's against the couch. Very amusing for me, the person who's taking the lower bunk. No fears if I roll off the bed. There's a 50% chance I'll land on the couch. Funness. We've created a fun little nook. Perhaps when I actually study, I'll do it there.

That's about it over here. I'm off to slack...then study. There will be studying...I WILL study. Maybe I should type that another 100 times and it will happen.

I WILL study. I WILL study. I WILL study. I WILL study. I WILL study. I WILL study. I WILL study. I WILL study. I WILL study. I WILL study. I WILL study. I WILL study. I WILL study. I WILL study. I WILL study. I WILL study. I WILL study. I WILL study. I WILL study. I WILL study. I WILL study. I WILL study. I WILL study. I WILL study. I WILL study. I WILL study. I WILL study. I WILL study. I WILL study. I WILL study. I WILL study. I WILL study. I WILL study. I WILL study. I WILL study. I WILL study. I WILL study. I WILL study. I WILL study. I WILL study. I WILL study. I WILL study.
I WILL study. I WILL study. I WILL study. I WILL study. I WILL study. I WILL study. I WILL study. I WILL study. I WILL study. I WILL study. I WILL study. I WILL study. I WILL study. I WILL study. I WILL study. I WILL study. I WILL study. I WILL study. I WILL study. I WILL study. I WILL study. I WILL study. I WILL study. I WILL study. I WILL study. I WILL study. I WILL study. I WILL study.

14 more pages. 14 more pages. *twitch twitch* 14 more pages.

Which Family Guy character are you?

45 more pages in Rights of Women!!!!!!!!!
I want Joss Whedon's career. Sure, I know it's frustrating having various TV networks mess around with you and your shows, but do you know what he's going to do after Angel ends? He's going to work on an X-men comic. Oh to be able to jump around like he can.

In other news, I'm irritated at my Spanish teacher (again). I e-mailed him asking to know my participation grade because I'm obsessive like that. The response I get includes the statement that I rarely speak in class. BS! I have jumped out of my comfort zone and spoken just about every class...more than the majority of the rest of the class. AHHHHHHHHH!

So, to receive my ideal grade, I'd need to score higher on the final exam than I've scored on anything else in the class. Evil badness. Repeat after me: Michele's GPA is screwed-o!

I'm still working on the Rights of Women, very slow work. But on the plus side, I've gained a new expression: "Unmanly immoral system." I need to finish it though...lots of other studying to be done.

Tonight is the last night with my precious loft. Tomorrow it's back to a bunk bed. Sigh. I'll miss the loft. Double sigh. The semester is ending. I won't miss Spanish.

Wednesday, April 21, 2004

So the presentation was alright...I screwed up a little and wasn't able to answer a question the prof asked, but it was for extra credit and it was a tough poem. So I call it good.

The quiz was rough. It's been a long time since I've looked down at a question and gone "I have no idea," but there I was, thinking that. I still managed to pull together and do okay. Either way two quizzes get dropped so I'm still good, but it's strange because I studied for this quiz more than I have the past several. Obviously I should stop studying all together, then I'd never have problems.

All the hard stuff for this week is done...now it's just preparing for all the hard stuff next week which includes:
-A Quiz
-3 Finals
-A final paper
-A test
I predict I'll be crying and rocking back and forth in a corner while chewing my hair by Thursday night.
And then I have finals week (It's only one test, but I like to sound dramatic)

After my classes I hit the library to drop off some books and picked up a nice vanilla latte on ice (Oh Yeah!).

Then I went outside to enjoy the woooooonderful weather. I love sitting along the river. I watched a nice old man fly fish. At first I was worried he was going to fall over in the water as he tried to get his footing on the stones. I was fully prepared to jump in and drag his unconscious body to shore. I even mentally reviewed how to give CPR. But then I realized he had caught something. I clapped. He said it was a rainbow trout. Dude! It was like a foot and a half long. That totally surprised me. Stuff lives in the Red Cedar?! Maybe it was a mutant. To make things even better, the man threw it back. No lives lost=plus. (Afterall, the evil poisons in the Red Cedar probably could have taken out the little old man)

Yeah for nature! Can't I just appreciate God's creation for the next two weeks and NOT do work?

Progress on ENG final paper I wanted to complete today=I have the introduction...I thought watching the trout man was far more interesting.

Progress on The Rights of Woman=Need to start that.

Progress on editing story=need to start that too.

It's a productive day.

Tuesday, April 20, 2004

Well, the bucky-doo-doo is about to hit the fan. So if I'm a good student, I should not be posting much. I'm worried about all of my grades. Slacking is fun, but bad on the GPA.

Silly problematic language. I'm been having communication issues with a bunch of my friends. At least some of them were sorted out.

I have doubts about living with my friend Rose next year. On one hand, I think I need to be social...on the other I'm best left alone. Which is worse? Backing out of an agreement to live with a friend or having said friendship ruined by trying to live together?

Tomorrow: Spanish Presentation (I'm still not sure what the poem means or what I'm going to say)
Quiz (Need to study for that)

Sunday, April 18, 2004

Okay, 4 cast members. The guy who worked with Fred...betrayed her by arranging for her to turn into a demon...can't remember his name...was a guest star on Firefly. Joss likes his actors.

Oh, I remember his name...Knox.

In other news, Into the Woods was awesome. They had amazing costumes and super-duper acting skills. I saw a lot of the actors earlier this year in another play. They rock.

Thought everyone would like to see this.

Enjoyed the musical. I'll talk more later. I don't feel like blogging right now. I'm watching Firefly. I'm very excited about Adam Baldwin being on Angel.

Points to Joss for getting 3 members of the cast on his other shows.

Haven't seen it...

My roommate was Ghandi for the leader (go her) and she's the same classic movie as me. (Go team!)

This amuses me...except for the fact that the man had horrible dress sense.

Thursday, April 15, 2004

It was Beeeeeee-uuuuuu-tiful today! Yeah for the awesome weather. I like the blue sky.

Hmmm, not much happened today. Classes...avoided work...it finally hit me that I should probably start preparing for finals or something...as all except one of my finals are the week before actual exams are scheduled, meaning tests are coming up...3 in 2 days...to avoid freaking I should study.

I started reading The Vindications of the Rights of Women it is as boring as it sounds. I'm rather sad, it took me about an hour to read 10 pages and I can't remember what I read. My eyes kept going while I thought about various non-eighteenth century thought related things. Sigh. Over 50 pages to go for this weekend. How will I get through next week when I have to read 300 more pages?

My parents are coming up tomorrow. We're going to see Into the Woods with Jas. It should be fun. Then I'm going to go home for the weekend.

I think my parents had a good anniversary. 32 year. Wow.

I'm off to avoid continuing the Vindication of the rights. Blah!

Wednesday, April 14, 2004

I love the fact that I have parents who would randomly think of me and express their love by sending me cheesecake. It came Tuesday morning...right after my super bad night.

Yum. Yum. Yum.

Tomorrow is parents' anniversary! Can you believe it? 32 years! That just blows my mind. Spending 32 years with a person. Wow. (It's either really awesome or it induces insanity and leads to homicide) If only more people could pull it off like my parents have.

I'm ready for the semester to be over, but at the same time I can't believe it's almost over. Either way, I'm slacker girl.

I'm off to watch TV! Slacker. Slacker. Slacker. Who me?

Tuesday, April 13, 2004

See, ya try to make yourself look evil and this is what ya get:

How evil are you?
Although this isn't true, I take it as a sign that George Orwell and I were meant to be together. Why, oh why did my favorite socialist writer have to die before I was born and could properly marry him?!
I coulda been Michele Orwell!

You are Socialist

What: Socialism

Where: At the distant bottom-left of the politcal spectrum

How: Comparable to communism, socialism is an economically authoritarian political standpoint. Often, people are guaranteed jobs and given them, while workplaces are being closely regulated. Forms of it are currently instituted in many modern countries, and it is know to support the working class, but also implode economies.

What political extremity are you?

I feel much better this morning. I ran/biked.

Amazingly, I finished all my work last night despite the set backs. Both of my papers suck, but I'm going to see a Spanish TA tomorrow. She always helps to set my papers right. I'll also re-edit my English paper...plus I'll have my super-editor friend Leslie look at it. All is not lost!

My friends amused me last night. Brit was trying to get some knots out of Rose's back. The poor girl was in a lot of pain...the faces she made caused the event to be funny. (Rose laughed too, so I don't feel bad for finding humor in the situation) I should have taken a picture.

need coffee. Yummie!

Monday, April 12, 2004

How irritating. I expected something for fun.

How evil are you?

Jas is still on the phone.
Sigh. It has turned into a bad night.

English paper is going VERY badly.

I found out that totally missed large portion of a necessary argument for my second Spanish paper in evil-Spanish-class. Also, during evil class, I was laughed at. Bad bad Spanish day. Cannot believe have to take yet another Spanish class after this semester. Torture and pain. Obviously I should have studied anthropology.

To make matters worse, my roommate will not stop talking on her phone and thus I am unable to concentrate or complete my English paper. But she's in a good mood and I don't want to ruin it for her by asking her to go into the hall. So instead I will sit here and vent/type...waiting.

Am going to go running EARLY tomorrow. I need to blow off some steam.
I will write my paper today. I'm going to write my paper today. Sound convincing? I didn't think so either.

Sunday, April 11, 2004

Well it's been a slacker kind of weekend. I finally wrote a paper for evil Spanish class...and because of that I missed house church. Oops. Lost track of time. But now my head hurts from all the Spanish thinking and I've decided I'm going to step up the slacking and not write an English paper that's been the thorn in my side for about a week now. "Tomorrow. I'll start it tomorrow."...I've been saying that for a week. The closer to the deadline, the more likely I am to mean it and start right? So, tomorrow it is.

Happy Easter! It was pretty uneventful on my end. Just thinking about all God did.

I called my parents. They're uber-psyched for the anniversary this Thursday. They have dinner plans and the day after they're coming to see Into the Woods with me and Jas. Should be fun. I'm trying to decide what I should get them. I'm lacking ideas.

Hmmm, too much thinking...off to turn slacker-veggie and watch a DVD.

Thursday, April 08, 2004

Okay, so my not so evil Spanish class was on the news today. I was on it, ugly badness, prefer not to think about it. But more importantly, there was a close-up of my hand writing. With the official pen of me! How totally awesome is that!!!!!! Unknowingly, I've already begun encouraging the world to use the best pen ever! Go team!

~Slacker girl who never does work ever.

Wednesday, April 07, 2004

Yeah! Happy being a Christian for a year-and-a-half day to God and me!

This day just keeps more and more interesting. A news crew came to my Spanish class today. They wanted shots of a Spanish class. (All this due to the University budget cuts. Spanish is particularly getting screwed over thus causing me to freak out over my what should be set in stone schedule for next year) So, I’m going to see if I’m on the news tonight. Sigh. The poor camera man…I remember having similar problems when I was working with the radio and trying to capture certain sounds. First my prof was all about writing on the board, so the camera man moved to get a close up shot of her doing that…at that moment she moved onto a different subject and stopped. It’s fun being a journalist!

1: Grab the book nearest to you, turn to page 18, find line 4. Write down what it says:
”Esta triple combinación de sonidos dentro de una misma sílaba es lo que”
2: Stretch your left arm out as far as you can. What do you touch first?:
My lanp
3: What is the last thing you watched on TV?:
One Tree Hill
4: WITHOUT LOOKING, guess what time it is:
9:56
5: Now look at the clock; what is the actual time?
9:57
6: With the exception of the computer, what can you hear?
The fan.
7: When did you last step outside? What were you doing?
Last night. Walking back from class.
8: Before you came to this website, what did you look at?
Jeffiner’s blog.
9: What are you wearing?
Jeans and a shirt.
10: Did you dream last night?
Yes. Weird stuff. There were dresses involved. That’s all I got.
11: When did you last laugh?
A second ago, when I read Monica’s answer to this question.
12: What is on the walls of the room you are in?
Lots of small pictures of paintings, maps, pictures of friends, a Dr Seuss calendar….
13: Seen anything weird lately?
I’ve heard a lot of weird stuff…oh, last night in the caf, a girl walked up to a fake tree, touched it on purpose…the tree fell over. The girl then panicked, picked up the tree and put it back in its upright position, then ran out of the caf.
14: What do you think of this quiz?
Eh, there are things I should be doing instead (studying)
15: What is the last film you saw?
Hmmm, is it sad that I can’t remember? I think I watched Batman Returns
16: If you became a multi-millionaire overnight, what would you buy first?
Hmmm, I think I’d buy either coffee or go on a Gap shopping spree.
17: Tell me something about you that I don't know:
Nobody knows exactly how my story is going to end..
18: If you could change one thing about the world, regardless of guilt or politics, what would you do?
Oh boy, it’d probably involve Christianity and trying to get people to reach an understanding
19: Do you like to dance?
Yes
20: George Bush: is he a power-crazy nutcase or some one who is finally doing something that has needed to be done for years?
Personally, I’ve always thought his face was shaped similarly to that of a rat’s.
21: Imagine your first child is a girl, what do you call her?
*shrugs* I’m cool with whatever…Bob for all I care.
21: Imagine your first child is a boy, what do you call him?
*shrugs yet again* Jonathan or Bob again.
22: Would you ever consider living abroad?
Yes, I plan on it.
I should really be studying right now...but I have a story that MUST be told.

So, I got a call this morning. And by morning I do NOT mean 8 AM. No, no. Morning=2:39 AM. I'd only been asleep for two hours...so it's not my best time. The first time the phone rang, I was completely asleep. By the time I had made it off my loft, it had stopped ringing. So, back in bed, the phone rings again. This time, I'm completely awake (not ready to jump up and answer a phone, but awake none the less). I make it off the loft and even have time for a quick conversation with Jas before I pick up the phone.

She thought it was probably "The Whisperer" a weird sicko who gets his kicks by calling girls super early in the morning to ask if he woke them up. But even this was about 4 hours too early for him.

I pick up...and am greeted by the sound of a completely awake female voice. MSU police department.

Apparently there had been some kind of water break in the parking lot (by where I used to live in Mason-Abbot) and I needed to move my car immediately. I found this very interesting, since my car is not on campus. It's in Grand Rapids with my father who drives it everyday. And even if it were here, I would not park in the location of where the woman was telling me I'd had to move my car from. Maybe, a year ago. So excluding a time warp or the car having been stolen (but really, why take the car to MSU? In fact, why steal THAT car?), this was not my car.

I mumbled as much to the lady and hung up. (Not mentioning time warps, I wasn't awake enough for that) So, upon waking this morning, (At a much more decent hour) I called my mom...to tell her my story. She confirmed that our car has NOT been stolen.

Thank you MSU for the 6 hour early wake up call. As if I wasn't having enough issues with you due to class scheduling issues.

Maybe the lack of sleep and hilarity of the situation will help me on my quiz and possible pop quiz.

Tuesday, April 06, 2004

Okay, so the day ended up better. I was very productive. Had a coffee. Got to sit in Barnes and Noble for quite some time. Good.

Hmmm, I have a quiz tomorrow I think there's a chance of a pop quiz. I'm also feeling kinda worried over a paper I have to write. Help me beat back the stress monkeys!

Sigh. MSU is in danger of me being mad at it. With the provost's massive changes, the Spanish class I'm scheduled to take in the fall might be moved to the spring (Very upsetting...I have zero flexibility of schedule and after evil Spanish class this semester, I'm unwilling to have a similar experience with a hard class) What kind of respectable school does not have a college of arts and letters or a differently titled similar department? Answer: None! Sigh. I should not have gotten myself started on this topic.

MSU be warned...you do not want to see me upset. Me freaking out over a canceled class is not a sight you want to see.
It's too early! What was I thinking, making my guidance appointment early in the morning.

Due to lack of sleep, I'm in a bad mood. I'm worried I'm going to have arm-loads of work tonight.

Here, I saw this and I felt better. I almost laughed out loud, but that would have been bad, as Jas is still asleep.

Monday, April 05, 2004

Okay, so I hate macs. I don't know how to use these crazy machines. Beyond my comprehension. I already tried to write this post...but the mac won't respond to my crazy non-mac commands. How silly of it.

AAAAAnyway, this morning started out normal. I had just sat down around the corner of my evil Spanish class when one of the other 4 students waiting suddenly exclaimed "Hey! We don't have class today." I looked around the corner at him, because he seemed kinda crazy and telepathic, his exclamation coming out of nowhere and all. To the side of the door was a small sign saying that our teacher was sick and that we wouldn't have class. Can we say, send an email? Or how about, put the sign on the door, so it is obvious. I don't like to play where's the sign. One poor kid had been there for an hour and hadn't noticed the sign.

May my teacher (Santa look-alike) feel better. I would post a picture of santa right now, but that's where I ran into problems the first time I tried to post this.

Now I'm left unsure of what to do. I can't leave the building, I have my less-evil Spanish class here in less than an hour. I already went through my notes to that class...I could write my story that I didn't get to this weekend (too much slacking instead) but that seems awfully industrious.

Dude! On this crazy mac, I can't check my spelling! What's up with that? Now that I think about it, I can't even find the power switch. Ahhhh! Scary mac...it is pretty looking though. In fact, I'd say it's much sexier than my gateway computer. Figures, the sexy computer is beyond my understanding.

Slacking. Slacking. Slacking.

My life is rated G.
What is your life rated?
Why? Why? It's daylight savings. No! Here I thought I'd gotten up early and would have plenty of time to do work...but no. And I'm behind on work! The day's practically half over and I've done nothing...except blog twice. Wah!
At least the sky is blue outside.

If only this was the view from my dorm window.
Now for something a little different: I offer you a plot for a bad horror film...except it really happened. This comes to us from

Vampire bats kill 13 people in Brazil

RIO DE JANEIRO, Brazil (Reuters) -- Rabies-carrying vampire bats killed at least 13 people in a remote Amazon town in Brazil's northern state of Para last month, authorities said on Friday.

The state health care department said the thumb-sized creatures had attacked about 300 people -- an unusually high number -- since March 2 in the riverside Portel area, next to the world's biggest estuarine archipelago of Marajo.

"All the deceased had a history of recent bat attacks and six of them had confirmed human rabies from bat bites," a department spokeswoman said.

Other bite victims received vaccines and other anti-rabies treatment after March 19, when authorities became aware of the problem.

The spokeswoman said government scientists suspect the attacks are linked to a change in the bats' migration pattern caused by deforestation.

"There is no guarantee that we won't have more cases," she added.

The most recent death occurred last weekend.

Vampire bats normally feed on the blood of large birds and sleeping cattle, lapping it from cuts they make with their teeth. They often transmit rabies to cattle.

Sigh. I have a cold. Do the germs not know that they are only supposed to attack me once a year? This is my third cold this year. The stupid germs are well over their limit.

I FINALLY spoke of Jill over AIM. She had no idea that I'd been worried about her. She's back in Detroit and back with Charlie, raising his kids. So, the conversation wasn't overly good. But, at least I can stop worrying.

    On a more positive note:

I want a person sized frog. I'd probably run and scream at the sight of it. But it'd be fun.

    Friday, April 02, 2004

Oh that just figures. I looked at the ads...I get the anxiety quiz. I'm obviously going to have to work on that.

Scheduling starts today. Let us all hope and pray I get the classes I need, otherwise I need to stay an extra year or go through the complicated process of getting over-rides...in which everyone tells me that they can't give over-rides and I should sit and wait for someone to drop. Wah!

Want to know what word I really like? Beautifully. Good word. Beautifully. Beautifully. Beautifully.

Kafka's The Trial is fun. It reminded me of my precious 1984. Of course, Kafka did write first, but George Orwell already had my heart. If he were not dead, I'd marry him.

    I love George!!!!!!!!
