Just so everyone is aware...
My dad is in the hospital.
Earlier this week, my dad stayed home sick from work two days in a row. When I called to say hi, he didn't want to talk to me, which was my first clue that something was very wrong.
On Tuesday, my mom arrived home from work to find my dad on the floor and incoherent. She called an ambulance.
There were a few scary moments. I almost flew home, but his condition has stabilized, even though he hasn't regained consciousness yet.
It took several days to figure out, but apparently he has pneumonia.
I know some of you are wondering why I didn't tell anyone sooner. In part, it's because my dad wouldn't want his friends and family to see him in this condition (which is one of the reasons my mom wants me to stay in Pittsburgh). But also, both my mom and I are private people. When going through moments like this, neither of us likes to feel suffocated by dozens of people asking gentle questions or giving sympathetic looks.
My dad's condition is improving and my mom and I are hopeful.
